Vera Saiko is a Canadian visual artist whose works are exhibited in Canada, China, the USA, and Europe. She works with oil, acrylic, pastel, and charcoal. Vera has a very expansive career as an artist. Also, she teaches Fundamentals of Drawing class and Colour Theory class at Sheridan College(Canada), where she graduated from a Fine Arts and Design program after receiving formal drawing education in Russia and Ukraine. Vera is an artist who paints intuitively and freely with the joy of color. She explores aspects of colors, spacetime, and ways they interrelate through visual expression. Harmonious composition, bold brushwork, and refreshing color make her paintings come alive, trigger intense feelings, and give her work a universal and timeless quality. Vera is a member of the Ontario Art Society and Oil Painters of America. Her works are in private collections in the USA, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, Russia, and Ukraine. In addition, Saiko's paintings are displayed in Toronto, Shanghai, Ningbo, and Shenzhen galleries.
Artistic Statement:
The process of creating my work is an organic one. The history and time of the creation of each art piece are crucial to me, and I keep the impulse of the emergence of an idea till the last brush stroke. My paintings seek to capture a fleeting moment or emotion while celebrating the joy of making. Whether making a painting or drawing, I allow the elements I create to ‘appear’ on the surface of the canvas or paper. My approach is mainly intuitive; the paintings unfold and develop almost of their own accord, and I aim to invite the viewer to find an emotional connection within the painting. Color plays a significant part in my work, with certain hues representing particular seasons, moods, and states of mind. I also experiment with abstract and recognizable forms by applying paint in less conventional ways or combining different techniques, making my work less controlled and fluid. The main element in my work is drawing. I do all my drawing freehand; line gives a life and strength out of painting. Drawing is a magical process when lines on a surface create shapes and forms. I also enjoy the juxtaposition between quite a physical and expressive painting process and more contemplative elements of deep calm within a painting. I seek to use both processes in my work.
